Prof. Dr. C. Upender Rao, is now working as a Professor of Sanskrit in School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was Chairperson of Centre for Sanskrit Studies at J N U. He was Visiting Professor on ICCR chair in Cambodia and was teaching in Buddhist University in Phnom Penh. He taught Sanskrit in the month of June, 2018 (one month) in Hue Quang monastery of Hociminh city in Vietnam. 

He completed Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy in Sanskrit and Master of arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Pali and Buddhist Studies. He had also completed the Bachelor of Education and Elementary and Advanced Certificate Course in Prakrit Language and Literature. He is holding Ph. D. from Department of Sanskrit of Osmania University, Hyderabad. 

Prof. Rao has edited and authored 20 books. At present he is working on various Indological issues in south east asia, mainly on Cambodia. He recently presented his paper in Vietnam on Indian Culture in Sanskrit inscriptions of Cambodia.  His recent (August, 2018) presentation on ‘Akshara purushottama philosophy’ in WAVES conference held in Dallas, USA was applauded by many scholars. 

Prof. Rao has organized national and international conferences. In 2014 he organized a National Conference on ‘Pali and Indian Culture’. He has extensively written and published books in Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu and English languages. He received number of awards and certificates of honors from various institutions in India and abroad. He received the Kādambarī award from Akhila Bharateeya Vidvat Parishad, Kashi for his Sanskrit composition Vāngmaya Vallarī. He also received ‘Delhi Gaurav’ award, from Parvateeya Vikasa Samiti, Delhi, received the certificate of Appreciation from Rayal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Received the “Certificate for Dr. S. Radhakrishnan education excellence award” from Indian institute of oriental heritage, Kolkata in 2018 in New Delhi and He received three Gold medals from Osmania University and Banaras Hindu University for his outstanding ranks in education. He received ‘Vidya Sagar’ award from Institute of Oriental studies, Kolkata in 2015 and 2016. He published several articles and research papers. 

Prof. Rao has specialized in Sanskrit and Pali. His research interests include Sanskrit literature and poetics, Early Buddhist literature and philosophy. He has an expertise in Teaching of Spoken Sanskrit language. Prof. Rao held various administrative positions. He was a General Fellow in I. C. P. R.  He was a Research Associate in I.U.C. situated at “Indian Institute of Advanced Study” Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. He is the member in Academic council in Rashtriya Sanskrit Sasnsthan, New Delhi, Banaras Hindu University and Osmania University and member of research experts committee in Lal bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapitha, New Delhi and other committees in India.
   
He was a visiting professor in National University of Keiv Mohyla Academy, at Keiv in Ukrain, and L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan and taught Sanskrit language and Buddhist philosophy in these places. In the month of April, 2018 he delivered various speeches in Lithuania including his main speech in the annex of Lithuanian parliament. 

He was a member of translation group under Khyentse Foundation’s ‘Buddhist Literary heritage Project’, USA and translated the Buddhist Mahāyāna sūtra from Sanskrit into English. I. C. P. R.  New Delhi had granted a translation projects to him. Prof. C. Upender Rao has completed the U.G.C. Majour research project entitled Pali Śabda-kalpataruh (A concise Dictionary of Pali to Odia and Telugu languages). Recently his two small Sanskrit poems were translated into foreign languages.

Prof. Dr. C. Upender Rao, has specialized in Sanskrit and Pali and his research interest includes Pali and Sanskrit literatures and Sanskrit poetics, Early Buddhist literature and philosophy. He has an expertise in teaching of spoken Sanskrit language. Last year, Prof. Rao was a Visiting Professor in Cambodia on ICCR chair of India and started working on south East Asian studies focusing mainly on Sanskrit Inscriptions. 



He is the Chairperson of Centre for Sanskrit Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has extensively written and published books in Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu and English languages. He received number of awards and certificates of honors from various institutions in India and abroad. He also received three Gold medals from Osmania University and Banaras Hindu University for his outstanding ranks in education. He received ‘Vidya Sagar’ award from Institute of Oriental studies, Kolkata in 2015 and Raṣṭrīya gourav sammān in 2016. He has published 20 books and several articles and research papers.
Prof. Rao was a visiting Professor in National University of Keiv Mohyla Academy, at Keiv in Ukrain, Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Russia and L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan and taught Sanskrit, Buddhist Philosophy.

Prof. C. Upender Rao, JNU, recent lectures in Latvia university, Riga

Prof. C. Upender rao, from Jawaharlal Nehru university, will soon be visiting the Latvian University in Riga on 9th of this month for giving lectures on various topics of  Indic studies. JNU is sending professor for delivering lectures in Riga. 

The Latvian parliamentary member Dr. Romualds Razuks invited prof. rao for giving a lecture in Parliament annexe of Latvia on world peace. The University of Latvia in Riga has invited Prof. C. Upender Rao to give lectures on following topics at the University of Latvia:

 Introduction to Vedanta (with reference to Dvaita, Advaita and vishishtadvaita)

Buddhist philosophy (with special reference to the Twelve links' chain of the dependent origination/Paticcha-samuppada)

Introduction to Sankhya philosophy

Kalidasa and his Similes

What are the figures of speeches used in Sanskrit poetry?”

He also presented his peace lecture in Lithuania Parliament annexe. He was a visiting professor in National University of Keiv Mohyla Academy, at Keiv in Ukrain, and L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan and taught Sanskrit language and Buddhist philosophy in these places.

रीगा में स्थित लातविया विश्वविद्यालय तथा लातविया के सांसद डाक्टर रोमुआलदस ने जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्विद्यालय के प्रो. सी. उपेंद्र राव जी को भारतीय प्राच्यविद्या के विभिन्न विषयों पर अपने व्यक्तव्य देने हेतु उन्हें आमंत्रित किये हैं । जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्विद्यालय के प्रशासन ने इसके लिए अपनी सहमति प्रदान किया है । प्रो. सी. उपेंद्र राव इसी माह की ९ तारीख से लातविया विश्वविद्यालय में इंडिक स्टडीज़ के विभिन्न विषयों पर अपने विचार प्रस्तुत करेंगे। उन में से कुछ विषय हैं,

-वेदांत का परिचय (द्वैत, अद्वैत एवं विशिष्टाद्वैत के सन्दर्भ में)

-बौद्ध दर्शन (द्वादश निदान- कार्य कारण सिद्धांत के विशेष सन्दर्भ में)

प्रो. सी. उपेंद्र राव, जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्विद्यालय के संस्कृत एवं प्राच्यविद्या संस्थान में संस्कृत और पालि के वरिष्ठ आचार्य हैं। वें विशिष्टसंस्कृताध्ययन केंद्र के अध्यक्ष पद को भी सुशोभित किये हैं ।  प्रो. राव ने कम्बोडिया के नॉमपेन्ह स्थित बौद्ध विश्विद्यालय में आई.सी.सी.आर. के चेयर पद पर भी कुशलता पूर्वक कार्य किया है. प्रो. राव ने अभी तक कुल २० पुस्तकों का लेखन एवं संपादन का भी कार्य किया है. वर्तमान में वे दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया में भारतीय प्राच्यविद्या के विषय पर भी कार्य कर हैं। हाल ही में उन्होंने वियतनाम में " कम्बोडिया के संस्कृत अभिलेखों में भारतीय संस्कृति" पर एक शोध-पत्र प्रस्तुत किया है.

प्रो राव द्वारा अगस्त २०१८ में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के डलास में आयोजित वेव संगोष्ठी में "अक्षर पुरुषोत्तम दर्शन" पर एक शोध पत्र प्रस्तुत किया गया जिसे अनेक विद्वानों के द्वारा सराहा किया गया है. अप्रैल माह में उन्होंने लिथवानिया के दो विश्विद्यालयों में अपना वक्तव्य दिया और साथ ही 'विश्वशांति' विषय पर अपना वक्तव्य लिथवानिया के संसदीय एनेक्सी में भी दिया । प्रो. राव यूक्रेन के राष्ट्रीय विश्वविद्यालय कीव मोहिला में एवं  कज़ाकिस्तान के एल. एन. गुमिलोव यूरेशियन राष्ट्रीय विश्विद्यालय, अस्ताना के अभ्यागत प्रोफेसर रह चुके हैं। साथ ही इन दोनों विश्विद्यालयों में उन्होंने संस्कृत-भाषा और बौद्ध-दर्शन का अध्यापन कार्य भी किया है. जून २०१८ में उन्होंने हवें क्वांग मोनेस्ट्री, होचीमिन्ह, वियतनाम में भी संस्कृत का अध्यापन कार्य सम्पादित किया है।
